I have 158 shares in a company called "Telewest Communications" The share price at that time was 4.2125. The certificate is dated 21/02/00

It may be first trying to establish the history of your own shares.
Whose name are they in?
Do you know this person?
Are you related.
How did you get the shares.
Has the shareholder moved address and not registered the new address?
Did the shareholder receive cash or other shares as replacement.
This could be quite a task, but I would try contacting Virgin, as on my link.
