Good question!
There shouldn’t be: there is no stamp duty on US stocks or any UK stocks that are non-domiciled.
However it is definitely worth checking and if you have been charged, which is sometimes the case, querying it with your broker.
The US company must be domiciled or registered solely in the US.
However, if the US stock is bought in the UK and dealt to clear through CREST, as opposed to DTC, or local and if the US company has not notified CREST that the shares are exempt from UK stamp duty then you may be charged stamp duty (SDRT) by a UK broker.
This is incorrect and you should be able to claim it back through your broker.
